Google Chrome

Google Chrome

As I logged onto my wordpress account I saw an interesting link for another blog. This was located under the Religion section so I clicked on it and read through most of the post. Basically, it is another spill from someone asking how can a good God do bad things to people, why have there been so many people killed in the name of religion, and all the other questions intellectual, wise, realistic people like to throw out at “religious nut jobs”. It cracks me up how people are so quick to judge Christians and Christianity yet they know nothing about the basic concepts or theology of Christianity. Oh well, I got a good laugh out of it. The sad thing is, I think this guy is serious.

On another note, Google’s new brower, Google Chrome, was released yesterday. So far it seems faster than Firefox. That might be because each tab in Chrome is its own seperate process. Who knows but I like it.

Thus, was the point I was trying to express. Praying to God to cure cancer is ridiculous. I hope one day people will see dying as a blessing. Instead of feeling sorry for themselves they will use it as an opportunity to pray for mercy and forgiveness, and make amends with loved ones. Not all are so lucky as to get such a chance.

  1. “It cracks me up how people are so quick to judge Christians and Christianity yet they know nothing about the basic concepts or theology of Christianity.”
I normally would not comment here, but I think your statement shows quite a misconception about the site. Many of the posters on de-conversion are former pastors, evangelists and apologists. They not only thoroughly understand the concepts and theology of christianity, some of them have advanced degrees in the subject. They understand devout christians because they used to BE devout christians. Before you dismiss them so lightly, you might want to spend some more time at the website, and read some of their stories.

  2. Just downloaded Chrome earlier today. Love it so far. The “Most Visited” page is a great idea.

BTW, in reference to the post by DeeVee on the d-C blog: Can you explain your view of the “basic concepts of Christianity.”

  3. robert,

Why then do you think the Bible is full of examples of God healing people etc. ? Was he just teasing humanity with what he could do then but not now?

    Paul

  4. First off, its extremely intelligent to pray to God and ask healing. It is intelligent to get angry at God for not healing someone when you ask.

“Basic concepts of Christianity” might should have been referred to as “basic concepts of God’s will”. Anyway, the way I see it is we, as humans, are imperfect. God is perfect. Our will is imperfect. God’s will is perfect. We might want someone that has cancer to be cured. That might not be God’s will, therefore it is not going to happen. I think it is dumb to get mad when we as selfish, self absorbed, people that are full of ourselves get mad when God does not answer every prayer we send his way.

  5. Paul,

I believe that the only real point of healing / miracles in the bible was to show God’s power (and in the process conveniently score brownie points for also showing some mercy).

    Whatthisis,

I think our points are much the same. It is not the act of prayer that is foolish, so much the expectation that God would fulfil our wishes. He is not a magical genie. He is God. We were made to serve Him, not he to serve Us. Sadly the ones who most often misunderstand God’s Will are Christians themselves, and the non-Christians’ misconceptions are based on their observations of these people.
